Silver/Gold Bugis Kris

Ganja Irias: Thank you for your comments. Yes they do look similar. It's
hard to tell if the work was done by the same person, but it
shows the very high quality of silver and gold work done by
Indonesian metalworkers. I have seen very few kris of this kind
and don't think they are very common at all, even today.

Not to take away from the quality of the work, which is indeed nice, but i would say that this kind of dress is probably much more common today than it was back in the day. Dress which was once reserved for either royalty or people of very high social status are today available to anyone who can afford to pay for it. You almost never see antique dress with toli-toli of these materials. When you do they are usually part of some royal regalia. Of course, the really royal examples that get this extravagant with dress are generally all gold, not silver. You might find this thread interesting and pertinent to this subject.

I am always intrigued by keris with toli toli.
Here an example from an old museum collection, with a toli toli, and gold pendok. very tastefull example.
