It may even be early 1940s - MOP was a later development.
Hope you etch the blade to see if there is any lamination. |

Do you guys think this is the original sheath. Usually when i see silver ferruled gunongs the fittings on the sheath are also silver....and the gunong does not seem to fit into this sheath fully. Seems a mismatch to me...

would agree at this point. I don't think that it is the original sheath, never have seen a bamboo sheath before. Will tell you when I have received it if the blade fit good inside. Regards, Detlef |

yes, will etch the blade. The elongated handle and the thin bulbous midsection let me think that it is more early. You don't think that the midsection would be more bulgy by a 1940s gunong? Best, Detlef |

As I said 1930s at the earliest and 1940s at the latest. One other possibility - the MOP pommel is a replacement at a later time than the midsection. Also most of these seem to come out of Mindanao. However the lack of okir makes me wonder if this is from the Sulu region. |

Thank you for clarification, this is a possibility since the sheath seems to be later as well. That it could be Sulu is an interesting point. Best, Detlef |
