Saw one here, yes the wood work is really good. The blade was also deadly sharp..

The most I have seen in the last time similar like this one have had crudely carvings and not comparable with old carvings. The blades are ok. The ones which are used by Indonesians for agricultural purposes are most of the time without carvings. Goloks like this are only worked for tourists, sorry.

I BOUGHT ONE OF THESE IN BALI, THE CARVING WAS VERY NICE THE BLADE SERVICIBALE AND BEST OF ALL THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. YES IT IS MADE FOR TOURISTS AND THERE ARE QUITE A LOT OF THEM AROUND BUT SOME THINGS MADE FOR TOURISTS ARE STILL COOL ENOUGH TO OWN ONE.
![]() THE MAIN MEMORY OF MY SWORD IS THAT THE LOCK ON MY HARD SIDED SUITCASE MALFUNCTIONED IN BALI AND JAMMED SHUT. I USED MY SWORD TO OPEN MY SUITCASE AND REMOVE THE LOCK, WITH THE ADDITION OF A BIT OF DUCT TAPE I WAS READY TO GO AGAIN. ![]() I WOULD NEVER HAVE USED A GOOD OLD ANTIQUE FOR SUCH A JOB BUT HAD NO QUAMS ABOUT USING THIS SWORD AS IT COULD BE REPLACED. THE SWORD WAS NOT HARMED SO WOULD HOLD UP AS A WEAPON IF CALLED UPON. |

Thanks everyone. When I looked at it online I thought it looked SEAsian. But when I held it I began to wonder because the handle was huge (and my hands aren't small). Still it is interesting and the kiddies and I like it.
