??? for comment???
Hello all!
I am new & this is my first time posting. I apologize in advance if I am doing anything wrong or posting in the wrong section? Much respect to everyone here. I inherited this from my grandfather some 35 yrs ago & just came across it again. I have no idea what exactly it is, but am very curious as to its history? All that I can read is "Made in India" ? It is approximately 29" long. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all, John |

Hi John,
Some close-up pictures would help. But what you appear to have is an Indian Tulwar of the type made for use at weddings and for decoration. The blade looks like it is plated. Often they say 'Made in India' near the hilt. I remember when I was a kid (in the 70s) there was an influx of 'military' style Sabre hilted ones that were sold as wall hangers in shops in the UK. Which fits with the timescale you mention. The 'fancy' Tulwar hilted ones like you have I usually think are nicer than the souvenier/wallhanger ones sold in shops here, and are more commonly seen at Sikh and Hindu weddings in the UK. Hope you'll be adding to your collection and we'll see more of you on the forums. Best Gene |

Gene,
Thank you so much! That would definitely match the time frame & fill in some blanks for me. My grandfather also left some "walking sticks" (?) which were interesting. I think this sight may have sparked a new collector bug in me! Thank you for your time & kindness. John |

This is a good place to study the different types of antique weapons, and if you do decide to take the plunge, not only will you be 'armed' with the right information to buy what you want, you'll also be able to to come here for "show 'n' tell" afterwards! Best Gene |
