hello all,
a few months ago, I bought a budha kris in dirty conditions (probably from the Singosari era), 'dapur' kris is mundarang, with square 'pesi', after I cleaned several times with sewing machine oil, looks delicate gold grains in almost every bar . whether this so-called 'gold hurap'. I expect an opinion from the forum. thank you all ... Last edited by dewaruci; 13th January 2011 at 02:21 AM. |

I'm sorry, but I cannot be certain of anything from these fotos.
To form an opinion I would need to examine physically with magnification at least. I have seen a similar effect when I have used industrial quality arsenic on a blade. I am not suggesting that this has been used here, but the colour of iron can vary depending upon many factors, one of those factors is uncontolled impurities in substances which come into contact with the blade material. |

Square pesi - is that common for this period?
Makes me wonder if this is the origin of the square pesi in Moro kris....... ![]() |

there is an opinion that the Javanese kris in Singosari era and earlier uses a square-shaped Pesi, because most of the keris buda is using has a square Pesi. I think I agree with this.
to profile keris buda, I saw in a 'pamor' magazine, published in Indonesia in its first edition in 2006, I see there are already some form of dapur in there, so I thought maybe it could be like that. |

I agree with that and I will not be corrected david, it's just I think if square shape 'pesi' found in many Singosari era or earlier.

I second that.
BTW, the gonjo got attached with glue and I'm fairly confident that it is not original and a recently made replacement. I also doubt the pesi - looks like some welding has been done to elongate it? Looks more like poor workmanship than a corroded rectangular pesi IMVHO but this is just guessing from pics. Could you please have a look under magnification? Regards, Kai |
