The pictures remind me of Babylonian/Assyrian/Persian lion hunting depictions. I have a keen interest in the ancient middle east.
I don't think lion hunting has been in vogue for a long time. Certainly I don't think it was around during the Moghul/Indo-Persian period. I think this is a depiction of ancient Persian hunting. The hats suggest ancient Persian achemenid(?). I believe that more recent Persian art oftenshows ancient Persian depictions. The uniforms remind me of ancient (acheminid?) Persian troops circa 400-500 BC. That's my 0.0000000000000000000000002 cents worth. ![]() |

I must correct myself there.
Looking closer I can see these aren't lions, they're tigers. I still think these may be Persian, rather than Ottoman. The uniforms look ancient Persian. But I would now guess not nearly as ancient as achemenid (spelling possibly dodgy, please forgive). |
