Oh, Andrew, i wish it were a seax as you suggest, but i am afraid this one is 'too young' to be so. Also i guess its shape, like the offset tang and blade back, don't look so. Considering the particulars pointed out by Gonzalo, besides the fact that Spain is just across the border, i would for now elect his suggestion of a Mediterranean style 'cuchillo largo' ('facão' over here).
