Default ID polished and smoked figure carving.

Got this figure years ago at a car boot sale 34cm tall any ideas?

Thanks for the thought but I don't think it is African. To me it looks Indian or Nepalese. Here are some daylight pics which might help get other opinions.

At first (and second) glance I'd go with African also.

If you incline toward India/Nepal, could you post a few comparables that led you to that inclination?

After having searched for some hours I think I have found an example that has many similarities. A Batak guardian figure. On many web site they seem to command high prices.

Hello Tim,

I'm pretty positive that your carving is not Batak (nor from any neighbouring culture).

It seems to have vibes of eastern Indonesia - can't give you any specific leads though.

For a different perspective how about a more artistic carving from Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Reminds me somewhat of the Moai with their top knot (if the patina is not faked).
