Have alook at this. Barely worth a thread I know, but a strange thing to dig up in the UK!

Little thing, just over 3 inches.

Not so strange, really. That size flask was used for the .31 caliber Colt Pocket Model:

Quite the contrary!!! Very much worth a thread, anything Colt!
As for appearing in the U.K. consider the several years, I think 1853 to about 1856, that Samuel Colt was in London producing his revolvers. These were popular with many British cavalry officers, and I believe there were at least a couple of these present at the famed charge at Balaklava in 1854. These would have been the .36 cal. M1851's.

Its an eye-opener to hear that Colts were made here (I didn't realise)
Revolvers were popular amongst 'gentlemen' in the UK up until WW2, but not 'the usual'.
Shame its not the whole flask, I guess this little bit is fairly useless on its own

No its not useless!!! If you wanted to make it "complete", there are replica flasks available of this one, and you could remove the top and put it on this. A bit of "ageing" of the brass should make it look great.Local black powder shooting shops should be able to help.
