12 Pounder Shell

Diameter = 4.625" (Nominal = 4.52”)
Wall thickness = 0.91”
Volume = 1 Cup (250ml) (inside volume: to base of fuse opening)
Weight = 8.75 lbs (Nominal = 8.34)

I had a fairly active interest in artillery at one time. This is a 12pdr. shell. A wood bung with a fuse inserted would be forced into the hole.

You can see the parting line from the molding process in the second picture.

It is a bit of a challenge teasing more than one photo out of a round hunk of metal. I hope you approve of my efforts.

I have looked for marks on this object but it is a bit of a Rorschach after staring at it for an extended period. Suffice it to say there is nothing glaringly obvious.
