As for shield no. 1 - a real shield, but probably polished/oiled. Not sure about the metalwork...

I noticed that most old shields in your books have an outer rim that curled up, and often has holes around the rim. I am not sure, but isn't that rim caused by the way these shields were made in the old days ? Best regards, Willem |

Yes Willem, a lot of old shields have an outer rim that curled up, and holes around the rim.Often but not always.

I think that maybe these kind of holes are made during the making of the shield, to stretch the leather.
