Not Your Typical Flyssa Dagger
Last weekend in Baltimore I was lucky enough to acquire this beautifully mounted flyssa dagger from a friend. Not that I have seen thousands, but I think this is certainly the best I have ever seen, with a beautifully crafted scabbard of silver alloy and a finely patinated wooden hilt set with small panels of ivory and turquoise. The primitive nature of the thing only shows in how the tang is so crudely exposed.

  next I have to show up earlier. It seems to have a somewhat Turkish influence to it?

Interesting, the scabbard shows clear Ottoman influence: the pattern, the throat design, the bud tip....neat!

Definitely Ottoman influenced art on the scabbard.
That actually makes me wonder if it my be a little older than I'm thinking,just in immaculate condition. |
