Not Your Typical Flyssa Dagger

4 Attachment(s)
Last weekend in Baltimore I was lucky enough to acquire this beautifully mounted flyssa dagger from a friend. Not that I have seen thousands, but I think this is certainly the best I have ever seen, with a beautifully crafted scabbard of silver alloy and a finely patinated wooden hilt set with small panels of ivory and turquoise. The primitive nature of the thing only shows in how the tang is so crudely exposed.

Comments welcomed.

S...weet piece you found there ;) :D next I have to show up earlier. It seems to have a somewhat Turkish influence to it?

Interesting, the scabbard shows clear Ottoman influence: the pattern, the throat design, the bud tip....neat!

Definitely Ottoman influenced art on the scabbard.

That actually makes me wonder if it my be a little older than I'm thinking, just in immaculate condition.

Hi
beautiful and immaculate flyssa, never saw one like that before
not surprise if the scabbard shows clear Ottoman influence,
Turkish have been rulers of Algeria for centuries (1600-1830)
