I'd say German c. 1950 or so. Or nearby. Pity the blades are buffed- its a lovely piece but I always think buffed finishes cheapen things. Are you going to carry it? Nice antler on it, too.

The bend in the blade does not look intentional, but rather a result of use, just like the scars on the spine that come from hammering- as you might when using this to split wood....

The cutlers resin recipe in Greg's link works great, smells great, is reversible, and is a historical method.
