Another example owned by Lew (http://vikingsword.com/vb/showpost.php?p=50513&postcount=3) that he got some years ago, so maybe not a very new phenomenon.

All in all, different blade types, although two of them with faux wootz, and near identical handles, suggesting the same handle/koftgari shop.

Nice illustrations.

I see sabres, yataghans, biçaks, karakulaks and things like Surmene knives. A few pictures show the fanciful generic "scimitar" but the scenes look formulaic.

Hi Abdullatif.

Nifty piece. I agree that the knuckle guard makes using this very awkward. Whichever way you hold it the concave part is forward and the tip would stab the wrong way in an ice-pick...

Hi Freddy,

This generally looks like a variant of Surmene knives. The Turkich spelling of kilic (sword) also suggests Turkey. I can't fully make out the name on the other side of the forte.

I had the same experience in Rajasthan. Same type of daggers, some with tiger/ram/forse head pommel. They also make jamadhars/katars and very bad tulwars. The old stuff is either in terrible shape or...

Nifty tool.

Fernando K, the knife would be held the reverse way, the metal support resting on the top of the arm, not the bottom, and with the edge of the blade is on the concave side. ...

Yup it's fourbisseur, with what looks like the old spelling "fourbyseur" though.
My mind went ahead of me, I was sure I saw "fournisseur" with an old style "S".

So Lepelon placed the order for...
