It looks like what's left of a Java eagle or hawk sword in relic condition. Probably not that old; perhaps early 20th century.

There is a very nice example here:
http://www.ashokaarts.com/edgedweapons/ew-12.html Just imagine what it would look like with a broken blade and significant weathering. n2s |

the only reason id totu this a sa mongolian knife it the seller on ebay did so , personaly it looks nothing like any knives form that area,, looks like a saxson seax witha bird on the grip,, maybe it is , but the grip seemse to be ivory or bone , and its not in a south east asian style,, i think , |

I'll muddy the waters here a little probably but when I saw this I thought of the hilt on this sword on artzi's site. Again not a great match but I thought I saw similarities
http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/...02210/ph-0.jpg Can we get more info on the central asian provenance ? This sword is south east asian and I think the blade style may fit knives from the same area as the sword on artzi's site but someone here may know better than I do. And often we can see what we want to so often I see Thai/ Burmese influence where it is not. Here are some thai knifes posted by Puff in another post included for a reference on some common knife blade styles from that area. Look at the 4th from the left http://www.uamulet.com/showsoImages/Pic_7486_1.jpg Last edited by RhysMichael; 19th July 2006 at 11:21 PM. |

no idea where the knife is actualy fomr , the guy on ebay was saying it was mongolian , but ive not ssen such knives of this type from central asia,, of the mark i think , in in mongolian and kazakhstan and other areas of centralasia a knife ,, basicly the ansestor of the seax, was common inthe 10th centuary and eailer,, blades around 20 cms or so,, ,, basicly the same shape as the knife in the pic,, the handles were many times glued and pinned into animal bone handles as on the seaxes,, dont actual know when they died out for the pichok and pukko style knives popular in these areas,, although i think the pukko form of knife has always been there, still dosnt look south east asian to me ,, |
