Default Heirloom Rejuvenation Ceremony 2007

In conjunction with this annual event emulating the "Kirab Pusaka", there will be a Keris Cleansing Showcase that will last for 3 days, known as “Rangsang Rias Pusaka Bangsa 2007”, or Heirloom Rejuvenation Ceremony 2007.

http://alamshah.fotopic.net/p38222801.html

Date: 9th – 11th February 2007
Time: 10.00am – 5.30pm (throughout the 3 days)
Location: Malay Heritage Centre, Istana Kampung Gelam, Singapore.
The official opening is on 10th February 2007 at 10.00am.

The keris and the cleansing of other heirlooms or pusaka will be held. Another interesting event during this period is a Keris Tournament, "Sayembara Ratu Keris 2007" or Keris Pageant 2007, a ‘beauty contest’ whereby anyone with keris can participate. The keris will be judged by a panel of judges, which will based on artistic merits and not in the mystical form (if any) or practical elements. The pieces will be on display throughout the entire event. The categories would be sorted by regional differences, or type of weapon.

Winning pieces will be on display at the Malay Heritage Centre for about a month. There will also be Malay traditional cultural performances during the event.

All are welcome.

Default Keris Tournament 2007 - Singapore

In conjunction with this event, the Sayembara Ratu Keris 2007 (Keris Pageant 2007) would be held at this venue. It would be a good time to see quality real keris displayed. Many Keris Collectors and enthusiasts will be there as well.

For those who wish to participate in the tournament can submit their keris for the competition from Monday 5/2/2007. Latest submission would be on Wednesday 7/2/2007. The categories are,

A pity I can't attend because of the distance.
But this year I have sent a, not before published, Keris to represent me.

Default A beautiful piece

Michael,

I've seen and handled this beauty. With it's new fittings, a sight to behold. I won't be putting any of my pieces against it in this category.

Michael
I should be thanking you for sharing this piece with us.
What I'm trying to say earlier is, my humble pieces cannot match yours, in Category 5. Good Luck.

Thanks Kai Wee and Shahrial,

I wasn't aware of that Adni had sneak previews before the competition.

Hi Michael,

Not that Adni wanted to have sneak previews, but a good keris cannot be hidden, just as paper cannot wrap around fire. Kerises joining the competition will eventually be known. It happens to all of our pieces.

Default Update...

For those who are planning to attend, please do.
This year's keris competition will be a fierce battle amongst local top players.
There are overseas contestants as well with many fine pieces submitted.

The line up is impressive. The Coteng category had been struck off due to no item submitted from this category. However, all other category are well represented. For all those participating, Good Luck.

The gallery at the museum had been set. The battle will begin on 10/2/07.

Dear all,

The keris competition concluded today with the prize presentation ceremony.

Congratulations to Michael for winning the 1st place for the Malay Keris category with his impressive melela keris! It is a worthy keris. The melela keris and other prize-winning kerises will be displayed at the Malay Heritage Centre museum (Istana Kampung Glam) here in Singapore for 2 weeks.

Hopefully Shahrial can take photo catalogues of the winning kerises and post them soon!

Congratulations! Michael. There were many fine pieces submitted for this category. To be the top amongst this lot is really something. The items are place in the inner chamber of this museum.

The Malay Heritage Centre used to be the place of residence for the royal family of Singapore. So it is literally a palace, now converted to a museum. There is a yellow mansion next to the palace, which was the place of residence of the Temenggong, or chief minister to the sultan. That mansion has been converted to a nice Malay restaurant named "Tepak Sireh".
