Show us your Alamang
Hello everyone,
I recently saw two "show us your ..." topics on Barong and Kampilan and I find this type of topic great for two reasons: -The first is that sometimes we hesitate to open a new subject just to show our last acquisition which, even if beautiful, is well identified, classified and does not give rise to any particular question. -The second, I find that it is a good way to bring together in a single subject the photos of many specimens of the same weapon which quickly allows to appreciate all the diversity. (and I also find it simpler and faster than using the search function and having to open each topic one by one). So I created this subject for the Alamang (and another for the Dua Lalan). Here is my copy, very simple, the handle is in buffalo horn, unfortunately the woven rattan bands are missing on the scabbard and the handle. |

Here's mine. The handle is wood and the top of the scabbard is green horn.

My Alamang
My alamang,
Sadly, it was lost or stolen en route to me after purchase from a dealer. This was two years ago and investigations have found nothing. Yes, I’ve tried everything. Please keep an eye open for it. |

It's really very sad especially for such an original blade.
At least I hope he didn't end up destroyed. |

Thanks Detlef. Not sure about the bevel on the blade. I've not seen any others with a bevel. I'm guessing it was added later. |

I have already seen blades from Sulawesi with this Pamor type and a hardened iron cutting edge reported. On your blade I think it has been repolished and re-sharpened recently, however the scabbard seems recent.
