Mandau Hilt with tufts of "blond" hair!
Hello evereybody,
Recently I bought this mandau. However, there were tufts of "blond" hair to be found in the hilt. They were put in it with a wooden "plug" every carpenter has in his toolcase. So this "plug" together with this "blond" hair was glued in the hilt. So the first thing I did was to put it out all together. Í want original tufts of hair in it, or no hair at all (no hair that belongs to some kind of goodlooking shopping blond woman who went to the hairdresser) Now the hilt looks very different as I bought it. (see pictures). At the other hand I'd like it how it is now. Without any hair at all. But now the question maybe someone can explain it to me and other readers of this forum who are interested in mandaus but don't have that much of knowledge for it. How is the hair normally attached in the grip? How did the dayaks do this? If I decide to put some hair in it, can anyone tells me how I do that? Cheers, Maurice Last edited by Javagolok; 19th March 2007 at 10:48 PM. Reason: Better description |

I don't know how blond blond is. You'd better made a picture before you removed the hair.
The blond colored hair is often normal goat hair and if i'm not mistaken the Dayak used wooden plugs like a carpenter to attach the tufts of hair in the holes of the handle. |

Hi Henk,
It was certainly no goat hair. It was human long blond hair. And the plug was no old one. It was put in it with lots of glue. I still have a picture of the hilt with the blond hair. |

Hi Javagolok,
Looks indeed if the previous owner ruined the hairdress of his wife to replace the original tufts of goathair. |

I do not know who owned this mandau but maybe it was the husband or ex-husband of Sinhead O'conner or Britney Spears!
