Odd group
Hello,
This set ended on ebay http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 and it raised some questions for me. The bottom knife looks like a Tiv loop dagger, but the top ones are mysterious. They both look indian, one like a 2-blade haladie and the top one a chillanum? The seller says they may be brass, would that be likely for such weapons? I see that Oriental-Arms won the bid, so perhaps Mr.Yarom could comment on them? Thanks, Emanuel |

Form the top Jamdhar Katari, Haladie and Bishwa. Yes Artzi made a good deal. |

That's true and the haladie I think is Sudanese or syrian, not Indian. |

LOL!!! YES THATS THE WAY IT GOES SOMETIMES I OFTEN STICK MY NECK OUT ON SUBJECTS I AM NOT VERY KNOWLEGABLE IN ESPECIALLY IF A POST IS GOING UNANSWERED. THINGS CHANGE ALL TOO OFTEN I USED TO HAVE SEVERAL NAMES FOR DAYAK SWORDS BUT IT GOT TOO CONFUSING AS TO WHAT WAS WHAT AND WHY SO NOW I CALL THEM ALL DAYAK SWORDS AGAIN. THAT IS ONE OF THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT USING ALL CAPS NO ONE TAKES ME TOO SERIOUSLY

On far too many occasions I have asked our Moro gang to define to me (us?)
the confusing varieties of Moro/Visayan swords. They throw all those "binangon, "pinute" and who only knows what other monikers around and I sit in front of the screed feeling like a dummy (deservedly, probably...) Guys, for the love of God, I have written haikus for you, so do me a favor: Somebody, please show pics of different varieties and explain what defines them as such! |

Assuming that they appear in the order that I will post them they are: A single blade Indian bichwa loop dagger A double blade Indian bichwa loop dagger African loop dagger from the Tiv people A comparison of the Tiv loop and Indian bichwa A couple pictures of a Indian Bagh Nakh (tiger claws), sometimes use with a bichwa A Haladie, an Indian palm dagger with multiple blades for good measure: A Chillanum a recurved Indian dagger usually of all metal construction A Khanjarli, a recurved Indian dagger usually with a ivory handle and large pommel |

correct sequence
They appear in a different order from how I up loaded them the correct sequence is:

Marcus, thank you so much for taking the initiative to add these images. We rely a great deal on the huge volume of data stored in these archived threads and it is so frustrating when photos not properly added are lost.
I am always very grateful when members are pro active in reviving old threads with new data and images so the research and learning continues! |
