Australian Arms Auctions—Upcoming auction October 13th
Australian Arms Auction has a twice-yearly auction that is largely firearms but also some edged weapons. Their catalog for the next auction on October 13th has just been posted online here.
The ethnographic edged weapons can be found roughly between items 150 and 200. European edged weapons appear earlier. This is mainly a gun auction, and it offers a reasonable selection of edged weapons. Proxy bidding is possible, but you need to get in touch with the folks running the auction now. There is no online bidding. Detailed information is available on the web site. All estimated prices are in Australian Dollars (AUD). Please note that 1 AUD is currently worth about 67-68 cents US, so the range of prices quoted need to reduced by one-third if you are looking for the USD amount. There is an auctioneer's fee for the buyer of 15% of the hammer price, and of course shipping and handling on top of that. The seller also pays a 15% auctioneer's fee—they spread the pain between buyer and seller. I have a few pieces up for sale in this auction and the organizers live only about 20 minutes from my home so I have got to meet them. They have an excellent reputation in the firearms' auction field, but have less experience with edged weapons. Ian |
