An Honest Pair of Barongs to Share
I just got lucky and picked up these pair of barongs. Good honest pre-WW2 examples. It is getting quite hard to pick up any Philippine weapons reasonably lately unless one gets fortunate or a fluke.

A nice pair. Shame they have no sheaths, but unlike some other SEA edged weapons you can probably make a reasonably acceptable and accurate sheath for a Barung without fairly basic woodworking skills and materials.

Both are junggayan.
One seems to be made of old narra wood with a horn top. The other is also narra wood but the junggayan tail appears to be broken off. Both are nice, and you are right - getting that one with the horn pommel intact is getting harder and harder. Congratulations! |
