Gav, are you looking for more info on this one particular keris or gold covered gonjos in general?

Hi David,

In particular I am interested in gold covered Gonjo on Malay Keris.

As images are scant and being and accessable museum I thought there might be images held by someone
After viewing more I am sure other questions will arise.

Thanks

Gav

Hard to be sure, but i have a feeling that the keris with the gold covered gonjo in that photo might well be a Sumatran keris.

The kris shown here was sold at auction a little while ago (not to me, alas), and I was most intrigued by the gold 'cage' around the ganja. Perhaps this is the right thread to throw it into?

Thanks for sharing, a beaut piece.

Any other examples out there or in particular, data on this aspect of art in the Keris culture of Malaysia or anything known about the example in the article presented in my opening post?

Thanks

Gavin

Nice example Loedjoe and it certainly shows this practice was in existence for Peninsula keris....but i am still not sure that the original keris under discussion is from Malaysia.

Likely not David but all roads lead somewhere and I'd like to explore some of these roads a little better and the museum is as good a place as any.

There have been a few gold covered Gonjo from other regions within these pages but not too many.

More would be interesting to study.

I am not sure what you are finding as unlikely here Gav. Given the size of this photo it is indeed hard to determine anything for sure, but the profile of this blade and the hilt look suspiciously Sumatran to my eye. Why are you so sure that it is not?
