Kampilan with red cord
Hi, Can anyone provide insight on this kampilan? What is the significance of the red cord and is there anything of interest about this blade? Thanks!

The bottom jaw on this kampilan is broken off. Might be Maranao, but hard to tell based on the little okir decoration that I see.
Also the tip of the blade seems to have broken off and ground down. The red cloth may be to help wrap around the hand to keep it onto the hilt (according to Cato), but it may also be blessed by an imam and/or a sign that the owner has killed many warriors. It is great that you have an intact scabbard with it. |
