Default Odd knife with US Army inscription

This is an odd one:

Strikes me as a misericordia such as used to dispatch the wounded with a stab to the heart ("a little act of mercy"). But why would it have a US Army inscription? Perhaps picked up by a GI overseas who wrote his unit on the blade.

Where would it have come from? Looks like a nice knife, perhaps not very old, with a decent scabbard.

Thoughts???

The markings are superflous; this knife has no likely association with the US miltary. The sheath is wrong for a western made theater knife and soldiers markings are generally more concerened with their names, units, and service numbers.
