Barong with fullers
Won this Barung at auction today, quite cheaply. Same cost as postage.
Listed as: "Vintage Borneo Dayak Mandau Sword with Wood Handle and Engraved Blade, (Total Length: Approx. 52cm, Blade / Approx. 40cm) in Wood Sheath " The blade is decorated, grip is fairly simple. Blade decoration is on both sides. Someone suggested it may have been a dyak barung based on the decorations. Comments welcome. Last edited by kronckew; 7th May 2022 at 06:49 PM. |

Congrats, not my area of collecting but looks to be a good honest piece of the type.

Barong arrived today. Blade is 15.75 in.long, 2.25 in. wide at the belly. 5mm thick at the grip. Blade held in grip by a reddish tranparent resin or laquer. Ground in fuller both side, decorations same both sides. Blade was very dirty with what looked like reddish tree sap, not rust. washed off readily. Blade is a razor. One small nick in edge.
Weight 451 grams sans scabbard. |
