Default Burmese Dha?!

Hello,

I recently acquired what I believe to be a rather recent (around 1950) Burmese Dha.

The fittings are white metal.

Am I correct?!

Any other comments would be welcomed.

Best regards,

Marius

Hi Marius,

yes, correct! A Burmese dha from 1930-1950 would be my guess. Nice one!
Compare with this one: http://dharesearch.bowditch.us/0032.htm

Regards,
Detlef

Marius,

I agree with Detlef. This is a Burmese dha with a little koftgari work and a full length, wide fuller on the blade. The metal decoration on the hilt and scabbard indicate first half of the 20th C. I might put it a little earlier than Detlef, maybe 1920-1940, but essentially the same period.

You are fortunate to find one with the metalwork so well preserved. Often the lotus bud pommel has dents or gets crushed over time. Nice example of a 20th C. Burmese dha and scabbard.

Ian.

Hello Ian and Detlef and thank you for your comments!

Most likely the sword was in a collection and that's why it is so well preserved.
