Old Lady
Dear collectors,
Is there someone out there who can tell me if this gun is really from 1694 as written on the barrel and where it is made . Thank you for your answers. |

On the evidence of the lock alone the date is (just) credible.

Sideplates in the form of snakes or dragons were characteristically made by the gunsmiths Johann Jakob Behr and Francois Pholien Henoul at the beginning of the 18th century. While Henoul worked in Liège, Behr first worked in Bavaria and then in Maastricht and Liège.

The date may be correct. It's a European gun made for hunting. Not the cheapest model at the time, given the finish.
