Hi Stefan,
third one who think that this are cheap "turist" items, keep one and compare with the first real one you get to your hands, after this experience you will know how to look for the "real" deal. Regards, Detlef |

I would love to compare the real deal with the tourist items....
My problem is that I do not have any collector close to me who collect these kind of blades and could show me, so then it is more difficult to get any feeling of it so to speak... When I begun to collect old so called "Wild West" guns many years ago I have several collectors around me and then I could have the real thing in my hand and learn to know what is original and what is messsed up with.... That together with a lot of books helped me a lot.... Well, up to now I havenīt bought any Islamic blade but I hope I will be able to do that soon and then it will hopefully not be a tourist item because I will ask first before buying.... Want to say thank you again for your inputs. This forum is a very good help! Best regards, Stefan |

Hi hombre,
I am not sure you should call your koummyas "tourist pieces". I would call them "village type" because I have seen many of this type that have been actually carried, as you can usually see on the wear around the rings where the baldric is attached. However, your have not been used. I am not sure about this, but most tourist koummyas have much more ornaments on the hilt and a blade that looks like....you know what I mean. Yours have very simple hilts, but relatively good blades. |
