NEW BOOK "The British Cavalry Sword" by Richard Dellar
I recently commented on the thread concerning the Charge of the Light Brigade posted by Sirupate, and had mentioned the superb new book by Richard Dellar on British cavalry swords .
What is unique about this book is that part of its title notes 'a new perspective', and that emphatically is just what it is . Rather than the thorough but typically rather 'dry' reading of typologies and compendiums of arms, Mr Dellar goes into great depth describing individual swords which are provenance and traced to certain individuals, often as well to significant events. This not only presents like a captivating and perfectly researched historic novel, but is like a guided tour through a fascinating museum which gives remarkable dimension not only to the swords shown, but their forms and use in general. For anyone interested in military history and regulation swords, this one is a must! and perfectly exemplifies the dimension in which these historic arms should be studied, just as the title suggests The price is quite reasonable, apparently including the shipping as the book itself weighs around 2 lb. Mr Dellar's website is: www.britishcavalrysword.com |
