Kris panjang on Ebay
Dear friends,
This kris panjang was just sold on Ebay and I would like to get your opinion about it. The hilt is in Jawa demam style from Northern Java and the selut in South Sumatra style. My question relates to the wavy blade which is very unusual for this type of kris: it seems to me that the waves were made later and are uneven, and the blade seems to have been shortened (15 inches long only and the tip is not symmetrical). Your opinions will be welcome. Best regards |

I have actually handled this blade and you know immediately it is way off as soon as you do handle it. I can't remember if it fit properly in the scabbard, but I don't think so. Looks like a parts piece all around.

Thank you gents.
While we are focusing on a keris panjang and as there is not much activity in the forum at present, why not posting pictures of various types of keris panjang unless there is already an old thread about the subject? Best regards |

Thanks Sajen, I feel that we could expand the discussion to the various types of kris panjang (blades & sheaths) from all the concerned regions. I am particularly interested by the comment from Alan about wavy panjang blades and old panjang blades with pamor as I never saw any.
Best regards Jean |

Hello Detlef,
Do you believe that the long blade with pamor is from Sumatra/ Malaysia or rather Java/Madura? Besides the presence of pamor, the ganja and sor-soran are different from the usual panjang krisses and the blade looks thinner and wider. And I would like to see more pics of pamor and wavy blades! Best regards |

Hello Jean, my best guess would be that it is a Sumatra panjang, the silver ornamentation and the handle let me think like this. The blade is thin because the blade has had a thick corrosion when I get it. A other interesting feature, the blade is of kapit construction, have a look here: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...hlight=panjang Here you can see also another kp with pamor blade from Kai Wee. Best regards, Detlef |
