Default Restoration questions of an Ottoman Kilij

Here are some images of a recent purchase, a 19th century Ottoman Kilij. Although it lacks the scabbard, I thought it was worth purchasing

I do hope to tidy it up a little as these pieces are becoming very hard to find.

First the blade, it has an even brown patina, what would be my best choices with cleaning this up without interferring with what gold inlay is left on the blade?

Secons, the guard..someone has at one point brass rivited the cross guard, not the first time I have seen this happen, what can I do to refasten this the correct way and does anyone have the ingrediants and methodology to resecure this the correct way with the putty/tar for want of better word.

Third the hilt, do the timber ones currently present look the part and would they be true to the piece or should new ones be made to surround the cross guard for a bit better?

Fourth, should I just leave it the hell alone and be happy to have the old warrior present?

thanks in advance

Gav
