Lubian's Modern Barong for sale
Hi everyone,
Zamboanga City's biggest secret in barong making is Jimmy Lubian - considered as the premiere modern barong maker in the entire Zamboanga peninsula. His clientele includes the top brass in the military and the police; elite personalities of the muslim community and the City government. He even counts ASG and MNLF members as his regular customers. He produces a limited number of high quality modern barongs. A Lubian barong bears the following distinction: a distinctive ukkil enqraving on its mother of pearl inlays; high quality mono steel blades; white brass ferrules on banati hilts; and, rattan-wrapped scabbards. The one here for sale has a 16" blade with an overall length of about 23". Price is $180. shipping is $36. Xoom fee to be shouldered by buyer. http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/8191/00044971ro.jpg http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/8816/00044954wm.jpg http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/7928/00045014le.jpg Salamat, carlo |

BEAUTIFUL WORK!! DOES HE DO THE MOTHER OF PEARL WORK ALSO? IF SO DOES HE CARVE REPLACEMENT PANNELS IN OTHER MATCHING DESIGNS TO REPLACE DAMAGED ONES ON OLD WEAPONS? IT IS COMMON TO HAVE DAMMAGED MOP ON OLD MORO WEAPONS. IT IS ALSO COMMON TO HAVE A NICE SWORD WITH NO SCABBARD SO THERE WOULD PROBABLY BE WORK FOR HIM THERE ALSO IF HE IS INTERESTED AND HAS TIME TO DO IT. WHAT IS A XOOM FEE?

Just curious, does Mr. Lubian take on commission work if someone wanted something specifically made?

Hi Vandoo,
Mr. Lubian does accept repairs on old kris and barongs. What he usually does is replace ALL the old MOP with ones that bear his trademark etching (as shown in the picture). I think it is his way to let everyone know that the repair was done by him. He can also do scabbards, replace hilts, name it he can do it. His only limitation is his work schedule considering that he is also into furniture work and brass and metal plaques. As to your question on what is a Xoom fee this is because there is no Paypal here in the Phils. Xoom.com is one alternative to send payments here but a fee is charge for every transaction. If i have the time and if the mods will allow I can post pictures of his works here. Federico, the large Weapons plaque I got it from him. He has done custom jobs also but personally I like his barongs more than his krises. I have also commissioned some pieces (junggayan hilts) which i hope he can start soon. |
