Nice Dha looking for a new home
Hi all
I have just been through process of gentle restoration on this piece. That entailed cleaning the blade to reveal a nice tempered edge, stablising the loose ends of thread on the wrappings of the scabbard, and using some appropriate coins to provide fittings for hilt blade junction (Federation Indochine piastre coin) and butt end of hilt (Thai 1 satang coin). Both of these are removable and have not altered the piece. The tang has been rewrapped with cloth and is a nice tight fit into the handle. The hilt itself is a lovely thing, giant rattan with woven binding rings, the scabbard lacquered cloth over wood, there is the expected wear and tear on this. The blade has a slight twist over the last 5 inches or so as is commonly seen. Late 1800s early 1900s Shan style, so could be from Thailand, Burma or southern Yunnan. Price 150 USD plus postage (about 30 to USA and 40 to Europe). PM me if you are interested. David |
