Nice sword. To me, the blade also looks like a cavalry sword blade or a local copy thereof from the second half of the 19th century, with some locally applied markings. It needs some gentle cleaning. The hilt is great - nicely preserved and looks like rhino horn from the pictures.
Regards,
Teodor

I agree that this appears to be a cavalry sabre blade of 19th century, but may be as Rick notes, possibly the first half. It may well be a Solingen blade unmarked for trade, and may have ended up with colonial military forces at varying locations in the Maghreb. I cannot tell for sure, but are these markings stamped or etched?
Whatever the case, they are locally applied interpretations of the cabalistic markings often found on earlier trade blades, and probably added when the blade was mounted in the characteristic 'nimcha' mounts.
The one figure appears to be the astrological symbol for jupiter, or very similar.
These are always most appealing sabres l'audois, thank you for sharing it!
All best regards,
Jim

What a nice piece. Love the rhino horn. Sad about the active rust (must get rid of that junk).
