Do you know what kind of wood the scabbard is made from? In one of your photos of its mouth, it looks as though it has a spotted grain(almost like cork). I've looked and I have something similar.

DhaDha, Yes, Rick is most defiantly correct...the scabbard is made of two Bamboo pieces.
