Indeed, a very nice blade with beautiful engravings. Do you intend to restore it? Any marks on the blade? The age is difficult to determinate from the pictures, but I would also guess from the engravings that the blade it is from the period around 1700-1800

No, there are any marks on the blade. Yes I wish to restore it, but I do not know how and I'm affraid to damage it. Can you give me some advice? No markings but the running wolf on the third picture should guess a passau blade. I bought that piece in Graz, Austria. |

Hi Valjhun,
sorry, I am not an expert for restoration, moreover, I do not like old weapons looking like new due to too intensive cleaning. I would only clean it with a good oil (I use Ballistol http://www.klever-ballistol.de with good results, it is also good on leather and wood) and try to remove loose rust with a soft brass wire brush, which leaves no marks on the blade. |
