Cool

It is impossible to comment without knowing what or which parts of the gun have been restored

The barrel and the lock are original. All others parts are not original. I made them.

bobi13,

How did you come up with the date of 1231 Hijri (1816 Gregorian)?

Hello bobi13. Welcome to the Forum.

That is a wonderful looking Boyliya. It's the one style I don't have in my collection.
If the only original pieces are the lock, barrel, and it appears the trigger, you have done an incredible job duplicating the wood stock profile and metal fittings. The barrel bands, other brass/pearl decoration look very well done, and in the traditional manner. And the lock looks like it cleaned up perfectly. Looks like all you need is a iron ramrod.

A question: Where did you locate the small, round, brass starburst inserts ? I have been trying to locate those for years.

As mentioned above, if you have any photos of the gun before restoration, please post them. As well, some additional details of the restoration.

Again, congratulations on a wonderful restoration.

Wow, congrats, you can be proud of your work!

But sorry, I wouldn't call it restoration, it's a new one with partly antique pieces.

Regards,
Detlef

There are people in Bulgaria (and elsewhere I am sure), who make tubes of horn and brass rods inside and then cut them into small rounds, which are then ready to be inserted. Perhaps if you contact bobi13 privately, he might be able to help you source some.

They may be called knife handle Mosaic Pins or nails on your search engine. Lots of different designs available.

I am impressed! Great work!

I will have to agree with Sajen though on the new piece with antique parts. If most of were antique then that would be different.

Still great work!

Thank you Teodor and Edster !!! I search with the term mosaic pins and found just what I was looking for. I should have used that term a long time ago.
Just shows one the value of this Forum.

Thank you again. Rick

Borislav, you do excellent work. The precision of the craftsmanship and the fidelity to traditional forms and styles is commendable. By and large, the quality of the work is better than what I've seen on many wholly-antique boyliyas. Do share your pics of yataghans on another thread, we'd love to see them!

If the barrel is in sufficient and safe condition, do you plan on shooting this gun? With a brand-new stock, you don't have to worry about recoil causing strain on old wood, or dislodging loose inlays!

The reconstruction is stunning. Discussion about limit of such could be long but pointless. One could easily mention contemporary Monte Cassino or some 1000 year Old japanese temples...
Well, it is ethnographic arms forum, so for me it is good news to see old (ethno)skill of ottoman linked kathamkali/sadeli work had not vanish. I suppose some ancient Guns and yathagans could benefit
If those pins would be available on market. Myself had looked for any data about them for pretty long time and in vain.
How do you make those pins? Brass and tar? Wood? Epoxy?
