Default Beautiful kampilan

Hello All,

this Kampilan (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT) just ended by e-bay. What do you think from where it coming? It don't look like a Kampilan from the Philippines, is it maybe from somewhere in Indonesia?

Default Beautifull hilt!

Hi Detlef,

Unfortunately I didn't see this one. What a beauty. This kampilan hilt is exactly as I like them the most!
Did you win it?

Very beautifull old style handle! I am not sure, but I take a risk to comment this piece: I think it could be a variant of those handleshapes as they appearanced in North Borneo.
Not exactly the "normal" Borneo model, but I think there is a good chance considering the shape of the handle.
But than, this is just my thoughts and I hope we can discuss it to track down the origin of this kampilan.

By the way, I never have seen a scabbard with such strange scabbardmouth for a kampilan. It looks also very odd.
Also it looks like there is some strange resin or glue between the scabbard's crosspiece and the stem.

One thing I can tell for sure:
I like the kampilan itself much more as the odd scabbard...

Kind Regards,
Maurice

Hi Maurice,

unfortunately I didn't win it. It was listed yesterday and sold by best offer or buy-it-now option.
I also would like to read what other members think from where it coming.

Kind regards,

Detlef

I too at first glance was thinking Northern Borneo. Very nice. That scabbard throat however throws me. Never saw one like that before. Interesting.

I expect that the scabbard is newer than the sword .

There is a nice old patina on this one .

Too bad the blade was over cleaned, it clashes with the mellowness of the wood .

Rick you are right on both counts. The whole scabbard is made of narra wood, but the bottom half seems to have more natural patina than the top, unless that patina was heavily worn away for some odd reason.

The blade does need to be etched too.

Hi Detlef,

I would use the buy-it-now option in this case..
