Sumatran Pedang III from Aceh?- HELP Needed!
Hello all,
I just acquired a Sumatran pedang/peudueng for my collection. -The hilt and basic form of the sheath seem to be type III (based on Zonneveld). -The decorations on the scabberd seem to me to be Northern Sumatra / Aceh (where I think the type 3 was not used) The blade is a complete mystery to me. Who can help? The blade is slightly curved with a rounded false edge at the top. Double blood grooves. The blade is layered but it does not look like Sumatran pamor but more like the polished blades from Bali or non Indonesian types of layered blades. Between the handle and the start of the grooves there are inscriptions on both sides. Also on the back and on the false edge. All seem to be made of silver. In the meantime I understood that it t is an article of Islamic faith that reads "Laillaha illallah, muhamad rasullullah, Laillaha illallah, muhamad, allah, allah, allah" which means "There is no god but Allah, Muhamad is the messenger of God, There is no god but Allah, Muhamad, Allah, Allah, Allah" Would like to hear your opinions and ideas on this pedang. Is it an Aceh piece and what do you think of the blade form? Regards, Erik Last edited by erikscollectables; 26th September 2009 at 02:19 PM. |

the translation you got is correct, this proclamation it's the main and the first of the Five Pillars of Islam (Arabic: أركان الإسلام) is the term given to the five duties incumbent on every Muslim. These duties are Shahada (Profession of Faith) ... and here we are the others are not related with our present concerns à + Dom |
