Hello Marius,
It sure does look Indo. It may not be old enough to allow narrowing down its origin to a specific culture though, I'm afraid. Regards, Kai |

JUDGING FROM THE DESIGN OF THE HANDLE INDONESIA OR MALAYSIA ARE THE MOST LIKELY. THIS ITEM APPEARS TO BE A LOCALLY OR HOME MADE KNIFE CERTAINLY NOT A TOURIST ITEM.

Possibly Sumatra? No, Philippines?!?
The shape of the hilt is reminiscent of some that I've seen from Sumatra on "rawit" knives. However, the guard and blade look like a gunong from Mindinao, Philippines. Unusual item!

Hello Dave,
Quote:
Only the guard reminds of a gunong; however, it doesn't show any features that are positively Moro and could basically come from anywhere throughout the SEA archipelago (especially given its apparently post-WW2 origin). Regards, Kai |
