Default 19 C. Jamdhar Katari Dagger For Comment

This arrived yesterday. This is the only one I have seen of this type that has a brass hilt and not a steel one. Does the brass hilt suggest it's a 19th century katari and not one from the 17th or 18th century?

I don't think that is a jamdhar katari, but rather a fancy koumya from Maghrib. The decorations are also verry typical of north africa. Can you post a better photo of the hilt?

Hi Jens

It's definately a form of a jamadhar katari. Here is a link to one Artzi had some years ago. http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos.php?id=761 the scabbard and trim are the same but his had a steel hilt rather than a brass one. Notice the scabbard construction is identical.

It is not a Koumya, it is a Jandhar katari normally attributed to the Hindu Kush region. The ones I have seen so far have been made in one piece. Some of them can have decorations on the pommel, like this one although most of them don’t.
