Curious Knife. For Tourists or real? TIA!
Thank you in advance for your help. I am a novice at a dead end. From where does this knife come? I appreciate your input!

hello,
I am deninitely no expert in this kind of weapon but I would say that this is a kudi or kudijang from Java. You may take a look here: http://www.valiantco.com/ and here: http://old.blades.free.fr/ Klick on the spears picture and You will see an old one. And no, I don't think that this is a tourist piece. But please ask the experts. Best regards, Helge |

It looks like a kujang, all right -- but in a rencong dress.

That is strange!
As Rahman points out, looks like a kujang in rencong dress, which means that the sheath and hilt of this piece are from a completely different, though geographically related blade form. Does the blade sit well in the sheath? Does it appear to have been made for this blade? |

nechesh,
It seems like the blade had been modifed to fit the sheath. See picture 2, the part near the hilt, seems to be filed. Kujang comes mostly from Sunda, West Java. Rencong comes from Sumatra, Aceh, Gayo and Alas. For this example, from the meucangge 'curved hilt', it is from Aceh, Indonesia. Last edited by Alam Shah; 18th July 2005 at 02:28 PM. It is a tombak dapur kudi, mounted as a rencong. I own a similar tombak dressed as a sumatran keris, made for the tombak.
