Default Kampilan un-restored

There are always questons about how much to restore old swords. I recently got this old kampilan and I plan NO restoration, cleaning or anything else. I like it this way.

Strange little gear-like things on the hilt??

Comments?

Nice item of course! in the case of the restoration of the hilt I think you made a good choice, but I think you can better clean the blade.

About the gear parts, I think the moro who owned this realized that this item once should be collected by someone with a motorbike?

Beautiful Bill! Just a little cleaning and preservation for this one. No renovation.
I wondered about the gear too.

Great piece.

Very nice hilt!
I agree that it wouldn't hurt to clean the blade a bit.

Hello Bill,

I suppose, these are later (not recent) add-ons. This seems to be a hilt that originally came without an "eye" AFAIK.

I'd remove the active rust...

Kai

I agree with the rest. Great hilt, but that blade needs work. At the very least the active rust should be removed.

I'd have to see what sort of pattern was hiding under there.

LOL, I couln't stand not knowing if it was a laminated blade.

I certainly agree with stopping any active rust, but I don't want to take it any further. I feel like keeping this pieces un-restored. Some of mine are a bit over-cleaned.

I have seen cogs like this on other kampilan pieces. When a coin is not available......
