Default Odd little barrel

Bought this some time ago. I think I got it ad thought "repro" and put it away. Now I wonder.

Length is 9" (not including the mounting protrusion) Bore is ~.75".
Note the irregularity of the bore at the muzzle.

I recall having a conversation with a fairly well known curatorial person who shall remain nameless who thought that it was "good" but "good" in what respect? Maybe as part of an old model? That would make some sense I suppose.

Material is brass.

Thoughts?

It looks like the model of a canon barrel with a oval system of Carl Wilhelm Ernst Berner. Guns with this kind of barrels have been in use as M 1835 in the state of Oldenburg.

The bore at the muzzle looks a bit flared, I do not think that that profile extends more than 1/2 inch.

The "rifling" looks like some sort of scoring. It, too, is restriceted to the mussze area.

Thing is that I had thought of this barrel as part of a handgun rather than a model. That possibility just occurred to me!!!

Talk about the danger of preconceptions.

I wonder what sort of carriage it had?

Another thing ..

Look at the rear of the barrel behind the reinforce. About 1/3 if the diameter is unfinished. In other words, not to be seen. Suggests some sort of fitted mounting.

I think that this is what led me to think "pistol".

Could it be an old signal cannon?

Replica "Handgonne" of the medieval period? Mounted on a tiller style stock and held with one or more bands.

The profile (with the reinforce and muzzle flair) say "18th century" I think
