Default Leather neck pouch for ID

Has anyone any idea what this might be ...it seems designed for hanging around the neck . The 'pouch' is made of leather ( looks like camel to me ) and is sewn up so that it cannot be opened . Whatever it contains feels hard and lumpy. The pouch is 6 cm across . It came to me with a number of Sudanese weapons.

This is a protective amulet. I believe they usually contained written extracts from the Koran.
