Keeling Island Knife
Does anyone know where this is from ?
A friend of mine thinks the Keeling Islands but he can't remember where he saw the reference. 17" overall length with a 12" blade. Blade is about 3/16" thick near the hilt. Hilt is 2-piece wood with 2 brass rivets, a brass lanyard tube and copper ferrule. Scabbard is 2-piece wood with very small brass pins or nails joining it together. As you can see the hilt partially enters the scabbard in the manner of Khyber and Lap knives. It is a simple but well made tool or weapon. They seem to come in varying sizes as I have a smaller, almost identical example. I would have shown it but it is hiding at the moment Any comments welcome Regards Roy |

Thanks for finding this. I don't think there is any doubt now. Roy |
