Default Parang Nabur?

Last month I could buy a sword of which I think it is a Parang Nabur of south Borneo. What I'd like to know is what reason was the iron detail at the end of the grip made for?

Yes, a parang nabur or beladah belabang. This one is a classic with one of many styles of blades, and a wooden hilt mounted in brass in classic form.

NICE example!

I think it may represent the crest of a bird's head, possibly the Cockatoo.
Unlike your example mine has notches.
