Default New Knobkerrie Walking Staff

I just did a buy now on this newly made but what seems to be a good quality knobkerrie staff. Yes I know it's new (my bad) but it looked too good to pass up. It seems they still have some good carvers left in South Africa

hi louie,

i bought this newly made one last year from so. africa, hand carved, not lathe turned - you can feel the tool marks from the carving. it is made from 'assegai' wood by zulu craftsman, billed as a knobkerrie walking stick, roughly 2.5 in. dia. head, 36 in. long. i love it.

Did you buy the knobkerrie from the same dealer I did? Did you wrap the haft yourself or did it come like that? As far as mine goes I will probably use when I do some hiking. Wouldn't want to use an antique one you know

hi lew,

mine was trading under a different shop name then, but a seach by member name brings up the one you got yours from, musta changed their shop name. mine was very much the same as some your supplier is still selling. got some nice stuff, reasonable prices and quite fast delivery. i was happy with them. been thinking of buying a sjambok from them.

i wrapped the haft myself with hand braided twine (i did the braid) to give a better grip & a bit to re-enforce just below the head, before i wrapped it i soaked it in linseed oil for a few days & hand rubbed it with a bit more for a few days after. the position of the string wrap is at a point where it felt comfortable for me. didn't feel right holding it further down. i got mine for talking along on doggie walks....
