ID needed Persian or Ottoman Warriors?
Here is an interesting tinned copper plate/tray.
Possibly of great age. Anyone recognise the particular uniform of the soldiers? |

To me these look like hunters in what would be hunting attire, rather than soldiers in uniforms. Interesting to see depictions of hunting with a shamshir.

Thanks, thats a very good point. I particularly like the one leaning right off of the horse to slash with the sword! No that the Tigers couldn't just jump up of course. Do you think they are Persian then? |

The pictures remind me of Babylonian/Assyrian/Persian lion hunting depictions. I have a keen interest in the ancient middle east.
I don't think lion hunting has been in vogue for a long time. Certainly I don't think it was around during the Moghul/Indo-Persian period. I think this is a depiction of ancient Persian hunting. The hats suggest ancient Persian achemenid(?). I believe that more recent Persian art oftenshows ancient Persian depictions. The uniforms remind me of ancient (acheminid?) Persian troops circa 400-500 BC. That's my 0.0000000000000000000000002 cents worth. |

I must correct myself there.
Looking closer I can see these aren't lions, they're tigers. I still think these may be Persian, rather than Ottoman. The uniforms look ancient Persian. But I would now guess not nearly as ancient as achemenid (spelling possibly dodgy, please forgive). |

Well........
Thank you gentlemen. I initially thought Persian. It's tinned copper and I've seen very similar pieces described as 17th/18th C Safavid. Bu then the doubts start to creep in and I started wondering if its Ottoman..... Also the tiger/lion things have got really long tails.....
